Our beloved mother, Yolanda Nava Sanchez, was granted eternal life in the loving embrace of our Lord when she passed away peacefully on April 10, 2022 at the age of 91.
Yolanda and her devoted husband, Antonio Sanchez, shared 69 loving years of marriage, and made their home in the city of Corpus Christi, TX.
She was a proud mother of six children; her eldest child, daughter Anita Grace Garcia, and her five sons, Jorge, Gerardo, Armando, Jaime, and Rolando Sanchez, all reside in Texas.
Yolanda was born December 29, 1930 in Laredo, TX, to Jose Nava and Maria de los Angeles Gomez. The sixth of eleven children, she held an enduring bond with her siblings Ray Nava (d. 2012), Elida Castro, Socorro Moreno, Irma Valdez, Angie Ramirez, and Richard Nava. Her siblings, twin Luis and Rogelio, sister Ninfa, and brother Ramiro, died as children. She attended Corpus Christi High School and graduated in 1949. Her professional career spanned decades of loyal service with the fabrication branch for the U.S. Department of the Navy, as well as the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Yolanda will be remembered most for her love of family; her greatest joy was found in the simple blessings of visiting with her children and their spouses, her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her vast extended “familia”. Always patient and attentive, her kind heart and generous spirit earned her the affectionate nickname of “Mom” from several of her grandchildren. Rarely would a family gathering be complete without a dish of her famed homemade “chile” salsa. But above all, her life was defined by her deep, abiding faith and her special reverence for the Holy Rosary.
Visitation will be held at 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel, 4357 Ocean Dr., with a recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 3513 Cimarron Blvd. She will be laid to rest at Seaside Memorial Park.
We wish to acknowledge with love and gratitude the generous assistance bestowed by so many during Mom’s final days, as well as the many messages of concern and prayer from friends and family.
