Welcome to the memorial page for

Delia Oliveira

August 6, 1927 ~ February 18, 2018 (age 90) 90 Years Old
How do you say goodbye to an angel? With broken hearts, we are forced again to realize that angels don't belong to this earth. They belong to the heavens, and thus the heavens have reclaimed another one of their own. Our angel, Delia S. Oliveira, died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, February 18, 2018.
Delia was 90 years young, and active all her life. As a beautiful young lady from Ramirez, Texas, she grew up in the Benavides Schools where she met the love of her life, Horacio Oliveira, her husband of 70 years. She always said that as soon as she saw him, she fell in love. Together they had 4 children, Lacho, Dolores, Noela, and Denise. She devoted her life to all of them, a loving partner to her husband, and a devoted mother to her children. From den mother of Blue Birds and Camp Fire Girls, to cooking for fundraisers for the Prima Debs and De Novos Social Clubs, she was always ready to support their activities. She attended every football game, every event that her children were involved in, and they felt her unwavering love and her support always.
After her children grew up and had children of their own, she turned her love light towards her grandchildren that she adored beyond comprehension. They could do no wrong, and she spoiled them with the love and advice that only a grandma can give.
Besides her devotion to her family, Delia served as president and held other offices of the Sceptre Club, the Corpus Christi Academy Booster Club, and the Incarnate Word Academy Parents Clubs. Delia was always called glamorous, classy and beautiful, and she always dressed to the "T".
Delia was a devoted Catholic. As a member of the Christ the King Parish, she provided weekly meals to the School Sisters of Notre Dame. When she moved to the St. Patrick's Parish, she continued her practice of attending daily Mass where she often led the rosary. She felt it was her duty to support many charitable organizations, including the Salvation Army, the Food Bank, and many others. (Please feel free to donate to any of these or to your own favorite charity in lieu of flowers.)
After her retirement as a paraprofessional from King High School, she delighted in being a member of two Bunco groups, and those ladies were her sisters-in-fun for over 20 years, and she loved them all.
While her life was filled with joy, our angel also had tremendous trials that she handled with her usual grace and beauty. Her only son, Lacho, was paralyzed from the shoulders down at the age of 38. She was devoted to him until he died 3 months ago. Her son's death may have hastened her own, because his loss was something that was very difficult for her to bear. She was also preceded in death by her precious and only granddaughter, Mary Catherine; her daughter in law, Margaret Oliveira; her son-in-law, Rolando Garza; her parents, HP and Juana Salinas, her brother, Alfredo Salinas, her sister, Lilia S. Benavides, her sister-in-law, Estefana G. Salinas, and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Armando and Lela Oliveira.
Delia is survived by her loving husband, Horacio Oliveira, Sr. and her daughters, Dolores (Pete) Gonzalez, Noela Oliveira Garza, and Denise Oliveira. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Mark (Denise) Oliveira, Dusty (Cecy) Oliveira, Chuck Oliveira, Mike (Debbie) Hernandez, Eric (Robin) Hernandez, Steven Garza, Chris Garza, Sergio Gonzalez, Javier McCaskill, Cody McCaskill, and Andy McCaskill; as well as 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Idolina Rios, and her sister-in-law, Lydia Olivarez. Special love and thanks to her nieces, Sylvia Mitchell and Carmen B. Garcia who visited her often, and loved her dearly. Her loving grandsons will be the pall bearers who will carry her to her final resting place.
Farewell, Sweet Mom, our Beautiful Angel. Our family chain has once again been broken, but we wait to see you in heaven where we will happily all link together again for eternity.
