Dolores “D” Montez-Hawkland, 53, passed away July 6, 2017 in Grand Prairie, TX with family and friends at her side. She was involved in a single car accident. She was born in Corpus Christi, TX on November 2, 1963.
“Dolores Monkey” was an animal lover, adventurous, fun, kind, loving, big-hearted spirit. “Danger Mouse” could light up any room with her infectious smile & giggle. “DoDo” could climb the highest of mountains, yet would stumble on the tiniest pebble. Having worked at the Dollar General she wanted to be remembered as the girl from Dollar General in Grand Prairie. “Dolores General” will be greatly missed by all whose life she touched.
D was raised in Corpus Christi, then moved to Austin where she worked on 6th Street for many years. There she met & married her late husband, Russ Jensen. After a brief stay in Pensacola, FL she then moved to Arlington, TX where she became a Pharmaceutical Technician. She met the love of her life Don Hawkland, with whom she spent the rest of her life.
D was preceded in death by her Paternal Grandparents Eva & Gabriel P. Montez; Maternal Grandparents Benita & Lauro Guerra; father Gabriel P. Montez Jr. and husband Russ Jensen.
D is survived by her husband Don Hawkland; stepchildren Michael (Amy) Johnson; Mindy (Amerin) Ingram & Travis Hawkland. Mother Terry Montez; sister Cindie (Wayne Foster) Hinojosa; brother Gabriel P. “Pat” (Julie) Montez; brother Joe “JC” Montez; numerous nieces & nephews. She was abundantly blessed with the love of chingos of aunts, uncles & cousins.
Visitation will be held at Seaside Memorial Chapel on Friday, July 28, 2017 from 6 to 7 pm followed by a Rosary to be held at 7pm.
A Funeral Mass will be conducted on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at SS Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, located at 5002 Kostoryz Rd., Corpus Christi, TX 78415, with interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park, where she will be laid to rest.
In lieu of flowers, D requested a donation be made to the ASPCA or your favorite Animal Rescue Shelter.
