This is Gary Wayne Smith, W. B. Ray High school, class of 1958. I was thinking about Stewart today and I Google his name to find out that he had passed. Im só sorry to hear this! What a fun guy.
We crossed paths in Europe in the summer of 1963, at an American express Office. His obituary mentioned the Europe trip. We spent some time together só I can attest that some of his stories are actually true. I wrote a short book about my trip and my short time with Stewart. ( “Work-A-Way, 1963” Gary Wayne Smith, author - on Amazon)
Google: Gary Wayne Smith, author and it should pop up. Everyone seems to enjoy this short story.
So sorry to hear Stewart is gone, but he’s not forgotten.

My sincere condolences. Stewart had a light in him that burned bright, never met a stranger, never uttered a harsh word against anyone. One of the most decent people I ever met, with a true love of life and a true gentle man.
I am so glad that things worked out so well for my friend. He made the world a better place and will always be remembered fondly.

I just ran across this & I am so sorry to hear of Stewart's passing. He was a great friend when I was living in Corpus in 1971-72. I spent many nights at his home listening to his stories, loud music & enjoying his cooking. I also remember spending lots of time in his gallery. He was such an inspiration. I wish I had of stayed in touch.

I am so sorry for your loss of your dear loved one. Even though I didn't know Richard I know how it does feel to lose a loved one. The Bible has really given me great comfort at 2Corthinans 1:3,4 "....the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our trials so that we may be able to comfort others in any sort of trial with the comfort that we receive from God. " I hope this scripture brings you as much comfort as it has me. The Bible gives us a wonderful hope for the future to see our dead loved ones again here on earth . If you'd like to learn more feel free to contact me via email or check out our website at JW.ORG . Again so sorry for your loss.

My deepest sympathy to you and your family. I felt so close to you, yet didn't know you at all. A shame. Bless you as you grieve.

What I most enjoyed from our long friendship was Stewart always saw life " sub specie aeternitatis " ; from a different point of view, which is why I relished sharing a drink with him and chatting about books, music, movies and our life's adventures.I will dearly miss him.
