It is with great sadness that the family of Dr. Mohammad H. Janka announces his passing on October 9, 2017 at the age of 73. Known to close family as Hossein, and to friends and colleagues as Moe, he will be lovingly remembered by many as a mentor, leader, educator, and man of integrity.
Originally from Shiraz, Iran, and a long-time resident of Corpus Christi, Dr. Janka completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Shiraz in 1967, and went on to receive two Master’s degrees in Physics and Nuclear Engineering, and a PhD in Nuclear Physics from St. Louis University and the University of Missouri Rolla (1978), respectively. He later joined the faculty at the University of Shiraz as a professor of Nuclear Engineering. In 1991, he and his family emigrated and settled in Corpus Christi, where he accepted a faculty position teaching physics and mathematics in the Department of Natural Sciences at Del Mar College. He was a committed and passionate educator, and a fervent advocate of science and mathematics in the education system. At the time of his death, he had been teaching for nearly 40 years.
Dr. Janka was a loving and devoted husband and father, and the beacon of light for his immediate and extended family. He was a principled, courageous, and strong-willed man among all those who knew him. He is survived by his dedicated wife of 37 years, Frough Janka, and his adoring daughters, Raha and Soha Janka.
A celebration of Dr. Janka’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 20, 2017 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel.
